Golf R Mk8 wheel fitments that work
| Setup | Wheel | Tyres | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Factory | 19x8 ET50 | 235/35R19 | Sits inside the guards |
| OEM+ 18" | 18x8.5 ET43–45 | 235/40R18 | More sidewall for daily driving, and clears the R brakes |
| Flush 19" | 19x8.5 ET42–45 | 235/35R19 or 245/35R19 | The most popular Golf R fitment |
| Aggressive | 19x9 ET40–42 | 245/35R19 | Close to the guard edge. Best with lowering. |
All of these are square setups, which suits the Golf R's 4Motion all-wheel drive. Run the same tyre size, brand and wear level on all four wheels.
Before you order wheels for a Golf R
- ✓Hub rings: many aftermarket wheels are bored to 66.6 mm or more, so they need 57.1 mm hub-centric rings. Custom forged wheels can be bored to exactly 57.1 mm.
- ✓Bolts: VW bolts come in different seat types and lengths. Use the bolts your new wheels specify, and we supply the correct ones.
- ✓Driver aids: lowering the car can affect radar and camera calibration for the driver-assist systems.
- ✓TPMS: if your car has pressure sensors inside the wheels, move them across. Either way, re-calibrate the tyre-pressure system after fitting.
Is it road-legal in Victoria?
Victorian rules
Under VSB 14, the national modification code, the wheel track (the distance between the left and right wheels) can grow by up to 25 mm (about 12.5 mm per side) over the widest factory option. VicRoads also limits the overall tyre diameter to 15 mm more than the largest factory size, and the tyres must stay covered by the guards. Flush and aggressive setups can go past these limits and may need a VASS certificate. We'll tell you where your setup sits before you order.
Golf R Mk8 wheel fitment FAQs
What offset fits a Golf R Mk8?
For a flush look, ET42–45 on a 19x8.5. For an aggressive look, ET40–42 on a 19x9. The factory offset is ET50 on a 19x8.
Will Mk7 Golf R wheels fit a Mk8 Golf R?
They share the 5×112 / 57.1 mm hub and bolts. But the Mk8 R's front brakes are larger, so some older 18-inch designs won't clear. Check before fitting.
Can I fit 18-inch wheels to a Golf R?
Yes. 18x8.5 ET43–45 with 235/40R18 tyres clears the factory R brakes and keeps the overall diameter almost identical to factory.
Does the GTI use the same wheels?
The Mk8 GTI shares the hub and bolt pattern, but its factory wheels are 7.5x18 ET51, so the right fitment differs slightly.
