Model Y wheel fitments that work
| Setup | Wheel | Tyres | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Factory height | 19x9.5 ET38–42 | 255/45R19 | About 3–7 mm further out than factory |
| Factory height | 20x10 ET42–45 | 255/40R20 | Wider, about 6–9 mm further out |
| Lowered | 19x9.5 ET32–36 | 255/45R19 | About 9–13 mm further out |
| Lowered | 20x10.5 ET40–45 | 255/40R20 | About 13–18 mm further out |
| Aggressive | 20x10.5 ET40 | 285/35R20 | Fills the guards. Best on a lowered car. |
These are square setups (same size front and rear), so you can rotate tyres. The Model Y has less room between factory and the maximum than the Model 3, so small offset changes matter. The refreshed Model Y (2025 on) uses new factory wheels, so check your placard.
Weight, load rating and range
The Model Y weighs around two tonnes, so choose wheels rated for the load and tyres that meet or exceed the load index on your placard (usually XL). Bigger, heavier wheels reduce range. Forged wheels help by cutting several kilograms per corner compared with cast wheels of the same size.
Before you order wheels for a Model Y
- ✓Hub rings: needed if the wheel's bore is bigger than 64.1 mm. Custom forged wheels can be bored to exactly 64.1 mm.
- ✓TPMS: move your factory sensors across. Newer Teslas use Bluetooth sensors, so generic sensors may not pair.
- ✓Brakes: the factory minimum is 19 inches. Some 18-inch designs clear even the Performance brakes, but it depends on spoke shape, so we check.
- ✓Lug nuts: use nuts with the seat type your new wheels specify.
Is it road-legal in Victoria?
Victorian rules
Under VSB 14, the national modification code, the wheel track (the distance between the left and right wheels) can grow by up to 25 mm (about 12.5 mm per side) over the widest factory option. VicRoads also limits the overall tyre diameter to 15 mm more than the largest factory size, and the tyres must stay covered by the guards. Flush and aggressive setups can go past these limits and may need a VASS certificate. We'll tell you where your setup sits before you order.
Tesla Model Y wheel fitment FAQs
What offset fits a Tesla Model Y?
At factory ride height, ET38–42 on a 19x9.5 or ET42–45 on a 20x10. On a lowered car, ET32–36 on a 19x9.5 or ET40–45 on a 20x10.5.
Do Model 3 wheels fit a Model Y?
They bolt on, since the hub is the same 5×114.3 / 64.1 mm. But they're narrower, sit further in, and their tyres usually don't meet the Model Y's load index, so we don't recommend it.
Do bigger wheels reduce Model Y range?
Yes. Larger, wider and heavier wheel-and-tyre packages use more energy. Lighter forged wheels and efficient tyres recover some of that.
What torque do Model Y wheel nuts need?
175 Nm, tightened in a star pattern, according to Tesla's service documentation.
